Fillings / Restorations
Linda Johnson DDS is proud to restore decayed teeth with fillings that look like regular teeth. We also replace unsightly silver fillings with those of the composite variety. Our dentist will remove the decay or the old filling along with any unsupported tooth structure. An impression of the teeth is made and transmitted to the dental lab. The temporary onlay is then positioned on the tooth. The next appointment is centered on the removal of the onlay. A conditioning gel is applied to the tooth so it can bond to the new onlay. A bonding agent is then added to the tooth. We use a high intensity light to connect the tooth with the onlay. The bite is subsequently adjusted so the tooth that receives the filling functions just like a natural tooth.
If you have old silver fillings, consider having them replaced with new ones of the composite variety sooner rather than later as there is the potential for silver fillings to cause damage to the tooth. A new restoration will not contract and expand as occurs with silver amalgam fillings. Our dentist is here to help you determine the optimal time to replace your old restorations with new ones. Unlike amalgam fillings that fail to adhere to tooth structure, composite fillings will fit just right within the tooth.
